Blackbirds (The Acorn Centre)

Welcome to Blackbirds

We are looking forward to learning, discovering and exploring together.

Me and You. How do you do?

We are very excited to get to know you and your family this year. We can’t wait to spend time with you in class or visiting you at home. We have been working hard to make the environment as stimulating and inviting as possible. We cannot wait for you to play, explore, investigate, discover and create in them! I wonder what you might do here...

Blackbirds Environment

Thanks so much to all of you who have signed up and are already posting on Tapestry. It gives us a fantastic insight into you as a family unit and each child as a unique individual.

If you haven't already posted on Tapestry, please do have a go. Do ask if you need some help with this. We will be looking out for your posts and we are sure you will be looking out for ours too!

Here’s to a settled, happy start to a new school year.

Home Learning

Please continue to support your child to read at home regularly and access Numbots. If your child could work through the criteria listed to achieve the bronze, silver, gold or platinum Maths awards this would also be very beneficial to them.

Check out these links to websites and suggestions of things you can do at home....

Numbots Many of our pupils are already enjoying the Numbots resource at home. You should have received your child's login details (they went home in book bags) but please get in touch if there are any problems.

Speech and Language This website should be up and running by the end of 20.3.20. It will provide speech and language resources for parents to use at home with their child.

Term One 2026

Term 1: This is our school, our community

We are very excited to welcome the children back and special welcome to our new children!

Our very first topic...This is our school, our community.

We played lots of 'getting to know you' activities and games to settle the children back into school.

In English the children read 'I want my hat back' by John Klassen. They learned to compose and write sentences with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to describe characters and predict story events.

During Maths we practiced counting, reading, ordering and writing numbers to 20. The children practiced adding and subtracting using manipulatives whilst also using vocabulary such as more, less, equal to, add, subtract and digit.

In Science we learned about materials and we asked and answered scientific questions. The children investigated, observed and compared every day materials and used vocabulary of property, purpose and texture.

During Topic we are predominately focusing on Geography. The children made maps of what we could see in our classroom, school grounds and in our local community.
